p4 Gogol's The Government Inspector was presented on the 12th, 13th and 14th of the month before appreciative audiences. A school dance was held on the 17th in the School Hall. Throughout the last week of the term Prefects and members of the Lower 6th went carol singing and raised over £30 for charity. At the end of the term the famous BBC film Culloden was shown to the senior school in the Hall. At the Christmas service on the 19th, the speaker was Councillor K. Reeves, B.D. During the holiday a skiing holiday in Switzerland was arranged for members of the school. January ; This is a month that is usually dominated to some extent by examinations and tests — particularly for those going in for public exams later in the year. John Vale was appointed Head Boy to replace Malcolm Barry who left after the exams. All the remaining Sixth Formers were made prefects too. There was a special Ecumenical Service at Holy Cross Church, Greenford, at which the school orchestra played and Michele Bartlett and Ruth Day took part in readings. February: Some members of the 6th form went to yet another C.E.W.C. Conference. The school's road safety team, consisting of members from the 4th form, took part in a road safety quiz, which they won. A Valentine Dance was held on the 18th, and this was extremely successful. The school broke up for half term on Friday, 21st of February. March: The term re-commenced on the 3rd of March, for the second half of the Spring Term. This was a very busy month. The second form visited the Jeffrey Museum, while others visited the Commonwealth Institute. The fourth form went on an outing to see Romeo and Juliet, and the Upper Sixth went to Oxford to see The Tempest. The Band of the Royal Army Ordnance Corps came to the school and gave a concert, as well as a talk on the history of military bands. The picces performed were varied : from The Virginian to Lohengrin. The basketball team from the senior school again competed in the final for the Middlesex Schools' Basketball Cup. This aroused much enthusiasm, and many pupils went to Stanmore to support them. This was well appreciated, especially as the team were successful. On Friday, 21st, the school's annual speech day and prize distribution was held. 4 The term had an exciting finish, with staff versus school, football, hockey, and netball matches. April: April was not a very eventful month, as we did not return to school to begin the Summer Term until the 22nd. The fourth form visited Hatfield House in Hertfordshire. May, June, July: These three months were very full ones. The sixth form went to see The White Devil at the Tower Theatre, Islington. The Christian Union took their second assembly, at which members sang How IMany Roads. The Whitsun Service took place on the last day of the first half of term. For the first time the hymns were sung to twentieth century tunes. June was a very industrious month, as the whole of the school was occupied with exams. A trip was organised to Wimbledon, and the school dance was held on June 24th. In July some members of the prefects went on a holiday to the Wye Valley with Mr. Holbrook, in the Minibus. Sports day took place as usual, as did the end-of-term entertainment. Staff and pupils played matches in tennis and cricket. SPEECH DAY, 1969 The annual Speech Day and Prize Distribution was held on Friday, March 21st in the School Hall at 7.30 p.m. This year the Guest of Honour was Professor D. C. Riddy, C.B.E., D.Lit., M.A., who is Professor of Modern Languages at the University of Essex and who was a personal friend of the late Headmaster and whose association with the school dates back a number of years. In the chair was the Chairman of Governors, Councillor Mrs. E. L. Prodham. HONOURS LIST University Entrance D. Brewer - University College, London.
