OLD SCHOLARS' ASSOCIATION The year has been a full one for all sections. Two well-attended socials gave opportunities for old friends to meet again, the three football teams did well in the league, badminton flourished, and the film group completed another production. In April we lost the services of Janet Pye, the Association's secretary for over five years. We wish her well in her new teaching post in Kent. Janet Smalley took over the job. THE A.G.M. The A.G.M. was held in the school library on Friday, 20th September, 1963, with President, Mr. James, in the chair. The financial side of the Association was stated to be very satisfactory with a balance of 80 at the bank (including 34 set aside for a future dinner). Officers elected for 1963-64 were: Secretary Janet Pye (re-elected) Treasurer P. Davey Press Secretary Janice Buck Social Secretary Margaret Butcher Membership Secretary Ann Dixon (re-elected) Committee Members Janet Smalley, June Pickett, B. Twigg, M. Birchall. 1st Year Reps. Margaret Rawlins, D. Gilbert Staff Reps. 'Miss Newton, Mr. Humphries SOCIAL On Friday, 11th October, 1963, the Old Scholars held a social in the School Library. Between 60 and 70 people attended, including Mr. and Mrs. James and several members of staff, and were served with coffee and refreshments to a background of "pop" records. During the evening a second showing of the Prospect Player's first two films, was given by Ann Dixon. Judging by the buzz of chatter and the volume of music that came from the record -player, most of the Old Scholars present seemed to have enjoyed themselves. Owing to the lack of support the previous year, it was not decided to hold a Christmas Dance in 1963. 40 Another social was held on Friday, 6th March, also in the School Library. In spite of the cold weather about 50 people were there to meet their friends, talk over old times and exchange gossip. Coffee and refreshments were served during the evening and records were again of a "pop" variety. The latest Prospect Players' film, a "Western" was shown, together with a very early black and white "'Mickey Mouse" cartoon, kindly brought along by Mr. Lockhart. MARGARET BUTCHER, (Hon. Sec.) BADMINTON 'The OS.B.C. has flourished this year, with an average of 8 people every Wednesday evening. The standard has improved since the beginning of the season and in March' a match was arranged with the staff, who, with two of our better players and two "Outsiders", won 7 -2. We hope to arrange another match with them later in the summer and hope that the staff can get a team of 6 or 8 to play us. We are also trying to arrange matches for next season with outside clubs and in a drive to strengthen our team, would like to hear from any 6th Former, who thinks that he, or she, can play a reasonable game. If you are interested, you can contact us via Mr. Allatt or come along any Wednesday evening to the School Hall from 7.30 p.m. during term-time. GORDON PICKETT (Hon- Sec.) FOOTBALL Although no honours were collected by the teams, the football has been attractive and of a much higher standard than previous seasons. The club at last terminates a season with a substantial bank balance, even after spending 60 on a new set of jerseys, footballs, etc., etc. This "affluence" is largely due to the "Pontoon Scheme" introduced at the beginning of the season. Thus we look forward to next season with no financial worries and a good chance of at least one team winning a championship. New players always made welcome and they should contact the Secretary at BYRON 3164. JOHN SALISBURY, (Hon. Sec.) Results Goals P. W. D. L. F. A.
