On March 14th the Choral Society and Soloists and the Ealing Youth Orchestra gave a performance of two works under their conductor, Mr. C. Brumby. The performance was received very appreciatively by all those present. It began with a Choral Fantasia by Beethoven that was composed in praise of music. The piece starts with a cadenza for the solo piano which was magnificently played by M. Neville. This is interrupted by furtive entries by the orchestra until finally the theme is announced. The work concludes with a stirring chorus.
Then Marissa Brumby, soprano, accompanied by the orchestra and M. Neville at the organ, sang the Motette "Exultate Jubilate" by Mozart, and held the audience spellbound during its performance. After the interval came Gabriel Faure's "Requiem". This was composed after his father's death and is scored for soprano and baritone soloists, chorus, orchestra and organ. This was a difficult choice for a young choir, but thanks to the long and thorough training, the Choral Society performed it brilliantly, and reflected much credit on their conductor, Mr. C. Brumby.
It was a most enjoyable evening and our thanks must also be extended to Daniel Klein, baritone, and the Ealing Youth Orchestra, which performed splendidly.
