FOOTBALL, 1963-64
This year the first eleven has proved itself a skilful and worthy side. The results throughout the season do not perhaps always confirm this : eight games won, four drawn and nine lost; but they do not reflect the fighting spirit and ability of the team.
The season might have been more successful if the players had been bigger. Most of the team were drawn from the Fifth Form and simply had not the necessary weight.
At the beginning of the season, we lost our first three matches; it took the team some time to settle down into a good side. Fortunately there were few injuries.
Every member of the team could be praised individually if the space permitted. Some deserve particular mention: Goalkeeper Bugden, the whole of the half-back line Brooks, James and Rapley, and also McCullock, who was promoted from the second eleven to be on inside forward.
The second eleven did not have quite so good a season. Again, they lacked size. Later, they should do much better.
THE JUNIOR FOOTBALL XI
The junior football XI made a poor start to the season but improved towards the end, being undefeated in their last four games.
The team was drawn from : D. Nelson (Capt.), C. Bell, G. Baker, B. Steele, G. Hensman, J. Gibbs, G. Pegram, H. Reynolds, R. Devereux, R. Doyle, J. Vale, R. Qualtrough, D. Tiernan, R. Thomas.
BASKETBALL, 1963-64
Only two school teams played this season because almost the entire senior team left at the end of last year.
The junior team had a successful season but had the misfortune of being in the strongest league in the county. They improved rapidly towards the end of the season, but it was too late to gain a place in the knock-out county competition.
The seniors with a very young team had an excellent season and scored no less than eight "tons". They played all season packed with twenty-one games, and only lost one the one that
