HOUSE NEWS ST. ANDREW'S HOUSE GIRLS For the second year running we were narrowly beaten in the Inter-House Hockey Tournament by St George's House, who won by 1 point Next year we must make every effort to win it In contrast we did not do so well in the Netball Tournament and I hope that next term there will be a great enthusiasm for this event I should like to welcome Jeanne McCarthy as our new House Captain I wish her luck, and I am sure that you will all give her your full support JUNE DOUGLAS ST ANDREW'S HOUSE BOYS This year has been one of success in every sphere for St Andrew's House The Autumn Term is usually devoid of house activity but, as is quickly becoming the custom, a house party was held This function, aided by the fact that nearly all wore fancy dress, was very enthusiastically received, both by members of the school and by members of the staff The Basketball Shield was retained by the house and a creditable performance was displayed by the House Football teams Second place was obtained in the Football Tournament, in which there was much rivalry, as is shown by the fact that we were placed second on goal average It was very pleasing for the House to regain Rugby supremacy by way of the Sevens Tournament Mr Gosden is taking his leave of the school this summer, and I should like on behalf of all House members to thank him for his services to the House and to the school, and wish him well in the future Looking ahead I should like to encourage all members of the House to work and play hard and hold high the name of St Andrew's House J. E. GAME ST DAVID'S HOUSE GIRLS The past year has shown a considerable improvement in House activities The juniors put up a splendid performance in winning the Netball Tournament The Hockey team did not do so well, but nevertheless I do not think it was for lack of trying 14 Everyone appears to be working hard, and if this is maintained we can hope to retain the standard shield Last year's efforts were amply repaid Although our position was low on Sports Day, we doubled the amount of points gained in 1953 If we can keep up these improvements at this rate, we should have a more successful term in both Athletics and Tennis DOROTHY McROBERTS ST DAVID'S HOUSE BOYS We cannot claim a very outstanding record of success this year, but we have the excuse that we have only 10 members in the House from the 5th and 6th Forms We came third in the Football com- petition, third in Basketball and last in last year's Sports There is all the more reason, therefore, for us to need all the support and enthusiasm from our younger members next year, so that the House can regain its former position R. MERCER ST GEORGE'S HOUSE GIRLS The House had a reasonably successful season in the Spring Term, during which we partook in the Netball and Hockey Tournaments Congratulations to St David's House on their success in the former Once again we managed to win the Hockey Tournament, narrowly defeating St Andrew's House I would like to thank all the girls of the House who took part in any of these games I hope this success will be continued throughout the coming season SHEILA DIXON ST GEORGE'S HOUSE BOYS Once again we have reached the Summer Term and three of the House competitions have been contested Each of these took place in the Autumn Term The House performed much better than in previous years, a notable achievement being the retention of the Football Cup We also managed to be second in both the rugby and basketball tournaments At the time of writing this report, although it is not completed, the House stands an excellent chance of winning the cricket competition The major inter-House competition occurs this term The competition is the one for the Athletics Cup and Standard's Shield As you probably know, last year we won the Standard's Shield, and I hope that everyone will combine to make this the second consecutive year, and that we will win the Athletics Cup, a feat not accomplished by the members of this House for many years R.
