OLD
GREENFORDIANS UPDATE June 2013
Dear Old Greenfordian, …………….Making
Plans
Arrangements for the Spring 2014 luncheon are now getting underway. The proposed date is Sunday, 18 May and, as
next year will be the 75th anniversary of
First step
has been a meeting with the area manager and facilities manager of property
operators MITIE, plus the catering manager,Compass
Group and with school business manager.
As a result I am happy to say that space hire
and food costs will be maintained at around previous levels. However, there are
sharp increases for postal charges and printing and this is significant
as over 60% of our members do not have e-mail. Please do let me know urgently if you are now online. The good
news – assuming your strong support – is that the luncheon charge will be £24.50 which is the same as the event at Hillingdon in
2007. So much for
inflation!
Following discussion with headmaster Mathew Cramer - and though it is
early days yet - it is hoped that elements linking past and present will include: talks or presentations after lunch by a group
of students on life at Greenford today
and by a former Greenford student discussing
life at university in 2014 or his/her
aspirations for university or
starting a career post-Greenford. It is hoped also that we will have the pleasure of being serenaded by members of the school choir. If you have any ideas you would like
to put forward they will be most welcome, just bear in mind the limited time
available. The Main Hall can be available if needed.
Another
aspect of the occasion will be its potential interest to local media. I know we
have members listed who were at Greenford in 1939 and early 1940’s and the
‘then and now’ angle could be of interest to news publications. This will be followed up nearer the date.
This letter
is for your diary. Fuller details will be with you nearer booking time
